Buying Auto Insurance - A
7-Step Checklist
Buying auto insurance can be
a daunting task. Here's a "checklist" to help you through the
process.
Step 2: How Much Coverage Do You
Need?
The first thing you need to do is determine how much auto
insurance you want to buy. This should be determined at least
in part by what the requirements are. California has very
specific requirements for the type and amount of coverage
drivers must carry: Requirements
For California Auto Insurance.
Step 3: Review Your Driving Record and Current
Insurance Policy
Before buying auto insurance, you'll want to review your
driving record, and your current policy (if you have one). You
should know how many tickets / points you have, etc. Note that
tickets rarely go away over time, however your point score may
go up over time.
Step 4: Solicit
Competitive Quotes
Start getting quotes, both from online brokers, and through
the Yellow Pages. Here are some tipe for finding Cheap Auto Insurance
Quotes.
Step 5: Record and Compare
Quotes
Keep a notepad and write down each quote, which company
or broker they're from, and the date. This will allow you to
compare quotes.
Step 6: Look for Discounts
Make sure you explore all options relating to discounts.
Insurance companies give discounts for a good driving record,
favorable credit score, safety equipment (for example, antilock
brakes), certain occupations or professional affiliations and
more. Go here for more information about Discount Car Insurance.
Step 7: Review the Policy Before You
Sign
Lastly, before you sign, make sure you read
the policy. Make sure you're getting the minimum coverage
that's required, that there aren't any "add-ons' you don't
want, and that you can afford the payments.
IMPORTANT: If you are getting a new policy to replace an
old one, make sure to cancel the old policy!
Follow these step and buying auto insurance won't be such a
daunting task!
